This bookshelf was inspired by the arrival of a large flitch (lot of boards cut from the same log) of beautifully grained Walnut. Flame patterns, variations between light sapwood and darker heartwood, and other characteristics spoke to me the same way that a great book does- immediately appealing, and inspiring yet able to hold my interest. Each piece of wood was carefully selected and chosen based on its unique grain pattern. While the design itself is not complicated, the result is stunning and practical.
